Habits of Success

The Habits of Success were adopted from the prominent educational psychologist K. Brooke Stafford-Brizard’s 2016 Building Blocks for Learning. It outlines 16 key social-emotional learning skills for comprehensive student development. The report integrates decades of the most promising research on social-emotional learning in an aligned and comprehensive manner. The habits of success are organized in a developmental program.

Each of the sixteen Habits of Success draws on its own deep literature and evidence base. The sixteen skills were chosen based on three criteria:

They align to the development of the child as a “learner” in an educational setting;

They are measurable skills, behaviors, or mindsets that students can develop over time;

There is a strong research base demonstrating impact of the skill, behavior, or mindset on college and career success.
